Monopod is publishing about automotive photography, art and culture. For its February 2020 issue, I wrote a piece loosely based on my travels through the west of America, enjoying its Motels, Hotels and Holiday Inns – the most widespread manifestations of ‘The Great American Road’ mythology and critical components in an Americana road trip – both figuratively and factually.
Despite spending a lot of time in Motels, I never overdosed. I never got bludgeoned to death in the bath. Never met Sailor Ripley.
Still, I’m a big fan, nonetheless.
